Weaving technology into textiles…

Dr. Ivan Poupyrev, Technical Program Lead at the Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) and head of Project Jacquard joins Pavan Bahl, Marc Raco and guest host Madison Maxey on location at the 2016 Fashion Tech Forum.

Design Rules, a set of technologies, and partnerships

Poupyrev discusses the goal of creating design rules, and a focus on apparel such as clothing, bags and shoes, and creating a set of technologies to help apparel manufacturers integrate technology into products and back-end platforms. He describes the possibility of brands using one app instead of twenty, and the partnership with Levi’s and conducting an on-site live demo at the Fashion Tech Forum with Levis’ Head of Global Product Innovation Paul Dillinger.

Evolution, innovation and The Jacquard loom

Why Google doesn’t want to become an apparel company, next steps in the evolution of apparel, looking at new and similar partnerships, seeing how apparel products can help change, and pushing the apparel industry to own manufacturing of apparel themselves, the current disjointed nature of the industry with no unified ecosystem, and the need to create set of tools. Plus, Poupyrev’s own definition of innovation and The Jacquard loom as the inspiration for the name of this project.
